Madonna, Dave Matthews Band Top Hot Tours

As reported earlier this week, the final tallies are in and Madonna MDNA Tour completed its run as one of the top 10 all-time tours, according to Billboard Boxscore with more than 2.2 million tickets sold and a gross of over $305 million from 88 performances.

The most recently reported stops place Madonna at No. 1 among this week’s Hot Tours tally. Included in the mix was a two-night engagement at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires where the pop legend sold 89,226 tickets for shows on December 13 and 15, grossing more than $10.8 million (US$). River Plate was also the site of 2012’s top-grossing concert engagement by a single headliner. Roger Waters’ The Wall Live Tour played nine shows at the Buenos Aires stadium in March with ticket sales revenue topping $37.9 million (US$). The 67,000-seat venue, Argentina’s largest stadium, also hosted KISS and Lady Gaga for concerts in 2012.

The Dave Matthews Band enters the Hot Tours recap with revenue totals reported from its 2012 winter tour that played arenas in North America. $12.7 million in ticket sales gives the band the No. 2 slot on this week’s chart with more than 170,000 tickets sold at 14 shows during December.  The 13-city trek closed out the year for the band that performed for almost a million fans in 55 shows during 2012.  The jam band, perennial favorites on the summer outdoor amphitheater circuit, also played a string of 12 winter concerts in 2010 at arenas in nine U.S. cities.

The Zac Brown Band scores a No. 5 ranking with just under $1 million in grosses reported from sold out concerts at two mid-western arenas during January. A total of 17,371 tickets were sold at shows in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Peoria, Illinois. The Atlanta-based country band will be performing at various arenas and amphitheaters in U.S. markets during the first quarter of the year as well as making an appearance at spring festival dates in Australia. The band is also set to play the Stagecoach Country Music Festival in California in April and will join Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes Nation Tour for select dates during the summer.
