'Glee' Gets Ratings Bump as 'Idol' Leads Fox to Victory

Fast National ratings give Fox a victory in adults 18-49 (3.9 rating) and total viewers (11.2 million) on Thursday night, with "American Idol" adopting its one-hour format after last week's debut in the slot.

The competition was down half of a point from last Thursday's two-hour showing for a 5.1 rating among 18-49-ers. Last week's premiere drew 17.81 million viewers and a 6.0 rating among adults -- losses of 19 percent from last January's debut.

"Glee" returned at 9 p.m., posting 35 percent growth from its last original episode, rising to a 2.7 adults rating from a 2.0 in December. It was the series' best showing since the second episode of the season.

Fox bested CBS and ABC, who were tied for second place in the key 18-49 demo with an average 2.0 rating. NBC had third place to itself with a 1.3 adults rating for the night, which featured the penultimate episode of "30 Rock."
