Beyonce and Shakira's "Beautiful Liar" (Columbia) started a second week atop that list.
The Monkeys' album comfortably outsold all the competition to become their second chart-topping album, following "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" in January 2006. Mark Ronson's "Version" (Columbia) stayed at No. 2 behind the new set as last week's bestseller, Avril Lavigne's "Best Damn Thing" (RCA) fell to No. 3. Beyonce's augmented version of "B'day" (Columbia), repromoted and now including the No. 1 single with Shakira, reappeared at No. 8.
"Beautiful Liar" holds at No. 1 on the singles survey as the former No. 1 "Give It To Me" (Interscope) by Timbaland featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake climbed back 3-2. Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" (Arista) also moved back in the right direction, 4-3.
Climbing into the top 10 were Mika's second hit "Love Today" (Casablanca/Universal Island), up 18-6 in its fifth week; Gym Class Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold" (Atlantic), 24-8; and Travis' "Closer" (Independiente), 36-10.
The dance crossover "Baby Baby" (Universal TV) by Sunblock featuring Sandy climbed 55-16 and Manic Street Preachers' "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" (Columbia) entered at No. 26. There was a surprise return to the top 40 for chart veteran Dame Shirley Bassey, now 70. Her single "The Living Tree" (Lock Stock & Barrel) debuted at No. 37, her first top 40 appearance since 1999, and 50 years and two months since her first with "The Banana Boat Song" in 1957.
As Arctic Monkeys' "Brianstorm" fell 2-7, two others tracks from "Favorite Worst Nightmare" appeared in the published top 75 of the chart, "Fluorescent Adolescent" at No. 60 and "505" at No. 74.
"The Best Damn Thing" debuted at No. 1 on the European Top 100 Albums chart, while the Timbaland track is in a second week atop Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.
