2006 - Willie Nelson chooses Valentine's Day to release the gay-themed song "Cowboys are Secretly, Frequently (Fond of Each Other)." The country music icon premieres the track on Howard Stern's Sirius Satellite Radio show as it is being made exclusively available via Apple's iTunes music store.

2002 - Mick Tucker, drummer from the 1970s glam band Sweet, dies after a lengthy battle against leukemia. He is 54.

2001 - Prince launches a subscription service whereby fans are asked to pay as much as $100 a year for online access to the rock impresario's songs and videos as well as VIP passes to Prince concerts and after-show parties. Prince unveils his NPG Music Club at New York's Studio 54.

1999 - Doug Weston, who operated L.A. club the Troubadour, dies in a local hospital after a bout of pneumonia. He is 72. During the '60s and '70s, the Troubadour was one of the city's prime talent showcases.

1999 - The Deftones, on the final stop of their tour opening for Black Sabbath, find that their truck has been stolen from the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in Dearborn, Mich. Taken are all of the band's backline equipment and instruments, including several of Chi Chings' Precision Fender Bass guitars, and Stephen Carpenter's custom-made guitars and racks.

1998 - Marilyn Manson begins a brief book signing tour on Valentine's Day at Tower Records in New York in support of his autobiography "It's A Long Hard Road Out of Hell."

1998 - Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds is honored as "Entertainer of the Year" at the 29th NAACP Image Awards, held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif.

1997 - Country artist Ty England and wife Shanna welcome their third child into the world. Levi Wyatt weighs 9 pounds, 3 ounces, measures 21 inches and arrives at 3:58 p.m. Levi has a sister Aspen and a brother Christian Tyler.

1983 - No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: ``Baby, Come to Me,'' Patti Austin and James Ingram. The song is featured on the hit ABC daytime soap opera ``General Hospital.''

1977 - Janis Ian receives almost 500 Valentine's Day cards from fans. The singer had revealed in her hit ballad ``At Seventeen'' that she never received Valentine's Day cards as a teenager.

1967 - Aretha Franklin records her hit single ``Respect'' at Atlantic Studios. The million-selling record is written by Otis Redding and tops Billboard's Hot 100 for two weeks.
