Due in August via Def Jam, the as-yet-untitled set will feature production from DJ Toomp, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Swizz Beatz and Polow Da Don.
"I always wanted to touch on this particular movie musically because I felt some of the things in the movie related to me and to lots of other people," Fabolous tells Billboard.com. "A lot of scenarios and situations in the movie are relatable. Plus, I always wanted to use a theme for my album, like how Jay[-Z] used 'American Gangster' because he saw a character that was relatable to him. I want to take scenarios and turn them into records, and vice versa."
A single or promotional track will tentatively be serviced to radio formats in May.
The upcoming album comes at the heels of Fabolous' 2007 release, "From Nothin' To Somethin'," which has moved 542,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The single, "Make Me Better" featuring Ne-Yo, reached No. 1 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart.
Fabolous has recently collaborated with Janet Jackson, Rocko, Red Cafe, DJ Drama and Britney Spears. The MC and his team, the Street Family, are also working on a compilation project via Def Jam, and have recruited Atlantic artist Deemi to appear on the set. In addition, Fabolous is expanding his clothing line, Rich Yung Society.
As previously reported, Fabolous will be teaming up with OneRepublic in the spring for the "Crocs Next Step Campus" Tour, beginning April 10 at Florida International University.
