"I wish I had stretched" is not your typical comment during a backstage interview, but that's what you get when you challenge a band like Grouplove to a game of Twister at Lollapalooza.
The Los Angeles-based rockers made all the right moves (left-hand-blue and right-foot-yellow, for example) in Chicago's Grant Park during its chat with Billboard about keeping it fun on stage, its upcoming tour and the band's experience working on the soundtrack for The Fault in Our Stars.
"The music supervisor approached us and we saw an early screening of the film," singer-keyboardist Hannah Hooper said. "After seeing it we were all hysterical and they were like 'remember that one section where it's uplifting? That's where we'd like you to write a song for the movie.' So we just wrote to picture. It's a really cool process."
For the rest of the year, Grouplove will team with Portugal. The Man for a co-headlining tour where they'll be playing the "biggest rooms we've ever played before," like Red Rocks in Colorado and NYC's Central Park. "It's gonna be a lot of fun," promised singer-guitarist Christian Zucconi.
