Ariana Grande performs onstage during the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards at The Forum on August 24, 2014 in Inglewood, California.

Before Ariana Grande highlighted the MTV Video Music Awards with a bang -- er, excuse us, "Bang Bang" -- alongside Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, the pop superstar opened the VMAs and blazed through her EDM-tastic new single "Break Free." Grande continued a breakout year by performing the new single for the first time on live television at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday night (Aug. 24).

Wearing a glitter-strewn outfit and jumping around the stage in knee-high boots, Grande arrived at the Video Music Awards in a spaceship to match her "Star Wars"-esque video for "Break Free." Although the performance was limited to a few minutes, Grande was given ample time to showcase her vocal ability, her eyes beaming as the singer pounced upon the bridge's biggest note.

Since the interstellar "Break Free" video debuted on Aug. 12, the single has blasted into the Top 10 of the Hot 100 chart, moving 18-4 on the current tally. With "Break Free," "Bang Bang" and "Problem," Grande has three singles currently in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 chart, the same number as her "Problem" collaborator Iggy Azalea.
