Saint PHNX, Minke, Walker Lukens & More Set For Bud Light Dive Bar at SXSW 2019
Though its high-profile collaboration with The Roots will not be part of this year's South By Southwest, Anheuser-Busch is returning to the festival for a fourth year with its Bud Light Dive Bar, a two-day event that will be dedicated to up-and-coming artists.
This year's Dive Bar takes up residence March 14-15 in a new home at the Nuevo Leon Lot, 1501 E. 6th St. in Austin. The afternoon lineups includes Saint PHNX, Walker Lukens, Minke and Sam Fender on the first day and Dreezy, Abhi the Nomad, Ivy Stone and Thutmose on the second. In a statement, Bud Light's director of experiential Shana Barry says the company is "excited to showcase the rising talent that we think should be on your playlists now" and promises "an intimate show" both days.
Admission will be first come, first served, and attendees must be 21 or over.
The company is also again partnering with Austin street artists Zuzu and Mouf of the SprATX collective, who have created customized 16 oz. cans especially for SXSW. Additional Bud Light Dive Bar sessions are also planned this year for the Lollapalooza, Firefly and Governors Ball festivals.
Bud Light made big news at SXSW in recent years with its Bud Light x The Roots & Friends SXSW Jam, a Saturday night event that started in 2016 but was called off at the last minute last year due to a bomb threat at the Fair Market venue where it was scheduled to be held. No reason has been given for the decision not to return this year.
Bud Light's Barry said that, "We’ve had some incredible SXSW performances with The Roots and their Bud Light SXSW Jam Sessions were amazing for us. We love the Roots and their team and I’m sure we will be working together again in the future. This year at SXSW and at all of our music festival footprints this year, we’re really focused on highlighting new up-and-coming artists through our Dive Bar Sessions platform."
