Super Bowl's Most Shazamed Moments: Katy Perry, Marc Scibilia and... The Verve?

Tom Brady and his undeflatable New England Patriots took the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but an unknown singer-songwriter from Nashville was the other big winner of last night's Super Bowl broadcast. Data provided by music discovery app Shazam shows that Marc Scibilia's version of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land," used in a Jeep ad, was the top Shazamed moment of the game (Katy Perry's halftime excluded).

Viewers looking to discover whose voice was behind the 1940 folk song made the Jeep spot the most Shazamed ad of the evening, and if you include the halftime show, Scibilia's version was still the fourth-most searched song. The Buffalo-raised crooner celebrated the fete by buying his first TV in order to watch the game "and other sports matches too possibly," he tweeted.

Halftime excluded, a heartstring-tugging Nissan spot featuring Harry Chapin's "Cat's In the Cradle" was the second-most Shazamed song and ad of the night, followed by The Wanted's "We Own the Night," which played during a highlight reel after Perry's performance. Other top songs included Sleeping at Last's sleepy version of The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)," for Budweiser, and the Brenda Lee classic "I'm in the Mood for Love," for a Victoria's Secret commercial.

Perhaps the coolest bit of music-discovery on the night may have been courtesy of the Seattle Seahawks themselves, who entered the field to The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony." The 1997 classic was the sixth most Shazamed non-halftime moment of the game, but couldn't prevent the Hawks from losing to the Pats 28-24 in a heartbreaker for Seattle fans.

Overall, six out of 10 of the most Shazamed moments of the entire night happened during the halftime show. Perry's closing song "Firework" was tops, followed by a pair of jams by special guest Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Lose Control" and "Get Ur Freak On." Perry's "Dark Horse," "California Gurls" and "I Kissed a Girl" (with Lenny Kravitz) also made the cut. If you just examine the halftime show, the least-Shazamed moment was Elliott's "Work It."
