Oscars 2019: 'Shallow' Wins Best Original Song
When Chadwick Boseman and Constance Wu announced Lady Gaga and her "Shallow" collaborators Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt as the winners for best original song, the pop star and leading lady promptly burst into tears. She embraced her sister, Natalie Germanotta, and Cooper before making her way to the stage.
She then thanked Cooper -- "There's not a single person on the planet who could've sung this song with me but you!" -- her family and her co-writers before offering inspirational advice.
"If you are at home, and you're sitting on your couch, and you're watching this right now, all I have to say is that this is hard work," she said in between her sobs.
"I worked hard for a long time. It's not about winning, but what it's about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There's a discipline for passion. It's not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or are beaten up. It's about how many times you stand up and are brave and you keep on going."
