The full list of Oscar nominations were announced this morning (Jan. 23), and Oscar season has officially kicked into high gear. With a plethora of Oscar-worthy films, this years' awards will surely be an interesting one to watch.

Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water leads all films with a whopping 12 nominations, as Christopher Nolan's World War II epic Dunkirk came in second place with eight. Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and Jordan Peele (Get Out) both received nominations in the top categories of best picture and best director, making Peele the fifth black director to be nominated for the grand award, and Gerwig the fifth female director to ever receive the prestigious nod.

Equally as important, however, are the original songs created for the films that added to the film experience as a whole. This year's nominees for best original song sees the likes of Miguel (Coco) to Andra Day and Common (Marshall)

Additionally, Mary J. Blige's earth-shaking "Mighty River" is nominated for the film Mudbound, which also made Oscar history as film cinematographer Rachel Morrison became the first woman to be nominated for the cinematography category.
