Sabrina Carpenter Teases Features on New Album 'Singular' at Hot 100 Fest: Watch
Sabrina Carpenter took some time to catch up with Billboard’s Kevan Kenney on Sunday (Aug. 19) at the Hot 100 Festival to speak about her new album, her fans and more.
Speaking of her song “Almost Love,” Carpenter tells Billboard that whenever she drops a new track, she hopes that it will resonate with people, so when it does, it’s a good feeling. She notes that this song, in particular, was a step outside of her comfort zone, so she is particularly glad that people like it.
Being both an actress and a musician, Carpenter is asked about her multi-tasking, to which she says emphasizes that undivided focus is essential. “If you really love what you’re doing, then you want to give 100% on each thing,” she says. “It’s just about separating them and thinking about them as a singular thing. For me, when I was recording the album and writing the album, my head wasn’t in a place of, ‘Oh, I’m playing this character,’ and vice versa, when I’m on set, I’m playing a character and I’m not thinking about music and mixes, as much as I want to. You take it day by day, and you give yourself a pat on the back and reward yourself for the little things along the way.”
Carpenter also chats about her new album Singular, revealing that the title was inspired by a conversation she had with someone who used the word “singularly.” Mishearing it as “singular,” the word really struck her.
“I was writing the album for the past two, almost two-and-a-half years now," she says. "I was towards the end of the process, I just realized… the album made me feel confident and empowered and just like I wanted to be myself and nothing else and each song kind of stood on their own. There wasn’t really a sequel to any other song. It wasn’t like the whole album sounds like one thing -- it was its own singular thing, each track. I’m excited for everyone to hear it and to see what they think.”
Asked if there are any features on the record, the singer confirms that there are, teasing, “I can’t tell you anything yet. I have one of my best friends on the album, and then I have someone that people know that I’ve been working with.”
