Bleachers' Jack Antonoff Picks His Top Cover Songs of All Time

Daniel Silbert

Turns out Jack really likes Tom Waits covers.

Jack Antonoff knows a thing or two about covers. With Bleachers, he’s covered tracks like Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way” and his standout 2014 album Strange Desire was covered top-to-bottom by an all-star cast of female musicians, including Sara Bareilles, Charli XCX, Tinashe, Carly Rae Jepsen and others. He’s a rocker with an ear for luscious pop production and he knows how to add that extra special something to another person’s song.

For Billboard’s Greatest of All Time special package, we spoke to Antonoff about his all-time favorite cover songs.

1. If you’ve ever seen the Bleachers live show, you know Antonoff has a thing for Bruce Springsteen. Naturally, his number one cover song is from the Boss -- Bruce covering Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl.”

2. His number two pick is another Waits track, “Downtown Train,” getting covered by Rod Stewart.

3. And the second runner-up in Antonoff’s book is India.Arie covering Don Henley’s “Heart of the Matter.”
