Underwood is the People's Champ, Winning the Fan-Voted Trophy.
Carrie Underwood was crowned the winner of the fan-voted Milestone Award, presented by Chevrolet, tonight (May 18) at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. "I truly have the best fans in the world," Underwood said emotionally, adding that she wouldn't get to do even a zillionth of what she's been able to accomplish if not for all those fans.
The BBMAs' second annual Milestone Award, which celebrated the innovation of this year's hitmakers was presented by Kelly Rowland and a lucky fan who won the opportunity to co-present. Carrie Underwood beat out two other finalists -- OneRepublic and Ellie Goulding -- on the strength of her many fans' votes over the course of the last few weeks.
The competition began with six nominees: Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, Underwood, OneRepublic and Ellie Goulding. Fan votes narrowed the field to three finalists (Underwood, Ellie Goulding and OneRepublic) three weeks ago and tonight live during the BBMAs' show, Underwood's fans gave her the win.
Underwood and fellow country star Miranda Lambert turned in a stellar performance, making the television debut of their new duet, "Somethin' Bad," which will appear on Lambert's upcoming album "Platinum" (due June 3). "I love country music," Underwood said as part of her Milestone acceptance speech, also thanking God for allowing her to get onstage to perform.
