Scooter Braun to Receive Humanitarian Award at Billboard Touring Awards
Scooter Braun, founder of SB Projects, a diversified entertainment and media company with ventures at the intersection of music, film, television, technology, brands, culture and social good, will receive the Humanitarian Award at the 13th annual Billboard Touring Awards.
The Humanitarian Award recognizes the philanthropic efforts of music industry professionals, particularly as it relates to the live music industry. Previous honorees include Global Citizen’s Hugh Evans, the Light Of Day Foundation, the Apollo Theater, MAC Presents’ Marcie Allen, manager Coran Capshaw, Jack Johnson, Warped founder Kevin Lyman, Jon Bon Jovi, Bob Ezrin and The Edge for Music Rising, Live 8 producer Kevin Wall, Dave Matthews, and Clear Channel Entertainment (now Live Nation).
Counting Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Usher, Karlie Kloss, Tori Kelly, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Black Eyed Peas, and Martin Garrix among his management, publishing and label clients, Braun is one of the most successful music industry entrepreneurs to emerge in the past decade. Even continues to grow SB Projects and his entertainment industry profile, Braun remains committed to the company’s founding philosophy of giving back, and incorporates a philanthropic element for each new initiative.
Braun also serves as Chair to the Advisory Board of Pencils of Promise, a non-profit organization that builds schools in developing countries. The organization has helped to build more than 300 schools in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He is also on the board of Fuck Cancer, an organization focused on prevention and early detection of cancer, which his wife Yael Braun founded. Braun, his clients, and his companies have granted more wishes for Make-A-Wish than any other organization in the history of the foundation.
Braun will receive the honor Nov. 9 during Billboard's annual awards gala, held this year at the SLS Beverly Hills. The ceremony will honor the highest-achieving tours, companies and executives of the year based primarily on the Billboard Boxscore chart. Additionally, Bon Jovi will be named Legend Of Live.
Also to be honored will be the 2016 winner of the Concert Marketing & Promotion Award (CM&PA), which is given to a sponsorship or promotion that benefited the concert industry at large by stimulating attendance to live events, providing value to fans, and promoting the artist and brands involved. Finalists this year are Brad Paisley and Zaxby’s for the Country Nation College Tour; Guns ‘N Roses and Citi for the Not In This Lifetime Tour; Beyonce, Amex and Uber for the Formation Tour; Florida Georgia Line and Nitto Tire on the Dig Your Roots Tour; and Chance The Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring Day with Citi, H&M, Honda, and Bud Light. The winner is determined by a voting panel of Billboard editors and industry experts.
As previously reported, Billboard will close the event by recognizing Bon Jovi with the Legend of Live honor, which is awarded to a professional who has had a significant impact on the touring industry. Past recipients include Bob Seger, Lionel Richie, Sir Elton John, Neil Diamond, George Strait, Rush, Journey, the Allman Brothers Band, and Ozzy Osbourne.
