The 2018 American Music Awards took place earlier this week, and while the show featured some big wins and some memorable performances from the likes of Taylor Swift, Cardi B and Mariah Carey, there were also some equally huge moments on the red carpet outside Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.

Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs was on the scene to speak with some of music’s biggest stars, chatting about everything from new music to dream collaborations and everything in between. Here’s a look at some of the evening’s highlights:

Khalid Talks Working With Normani

Khalid opened up about working with Normani on their song “Love Lies,” telling Billboard that the song is authentic, and that everything you hear in the song is the relationship that he shares with her.

“She’s so amazing, she’s so beautiful and she’s an amazing friend,” he says of Normani, adding that he hopes that they can collaborate on music again in the future.

Dua Lipa Says She’s “Such a Believer in Love”

Dua Lipa spoke about her new Silk City collaboration “Electricity,” explaining that filming the song’s music video was  a "massive turning point” for her confidence because she just wanted to dance and perform and didn’t care what people would think about it.

She also chatted about her forthcoming album and how her relationship has inspired it, among other things. “Love is amazing and I’m such a believer in love, and I feel so lucky to be loved,” she says, also revealing what she considers to be the key to a successful relationship.

Ella Mai Talks New Music & Lessons Learned From Bruno Mars

Ella Mai dishes on her new song “Easy,” calling it a stripped-down love song that is unlike anything she has previously released. She also chats about touring with Bruno Mars and what she's learned from being on the road with him: Energy is key.

“Always bring your A-game, your energy,” she says. “It doesn’t matter how tired you are. His show is incredible. You would never know that he is tired. … He’s a great person, he’s so friendly, so nice and so humble.”

Ty Dolla $ign Calls Lauren Jauregui's Solo Album “Fire”

Chatting about his girlfriend’s debut solo record, Ty Dolla $ign calls Lauren Jauregui's record “fire,” noting that he is “super proud of her” for writing all of the lyrics and “really going in…she really has passion for the music. I’m excited to see what the people think.” He also talks about new music and working with his “homegirl” Dinah Jane, Jauregui's Fifth Harmony bandmate.

NCT 127 Talk Dream Collaborations, Show Off Their Favorite Photo Poses

Not only do the guys of NCT 127 chat about their forthcoming record Regular-Irregular, but they also reveal they’d love to one day collaborate with Ty Dolla $ign, Post Malone and Camila Cabello. Plus, they sing snippets of Cabello’s “Havana” and Bruno Mars and Cardi B’s “Finesse” and they adorably show off some of their go-to red-carpet photo poses.

J Balvin on Working With Cardi B & His New Album With Bad Bunny

J Balvin told Billboard that his collaborator Cardi B is “amazing,” adding that she is “such a character. I think she’s the most crazy and lovely girl…she’s so real.” He also spoke about his upcoming album with Bad Bunny that is said to be in the works, with the rumored title of Oasis. “That’s my brother. I love him,” Balvin says of Bad Bunny.

Camila Cabello Watched Kobe Bryant's Documentary for Inspiration

After taking home four awards, Cabello spoke with Billboard about how she mentally prepares herself for awards shows. “I was watching Kobe Bryant’s documentary,” she shares, “And he just talks about how he keeps the hard times or any struggle or anything like that at the top of his head when he’s gonna do something really important, and I was just thinking about all the hard times and the road to getting to this moment.”

Normani Teases New Collaborations with Sam Smith & Calvin Harris

Normani revealed that she has something in the works with Sam Smith, as well as Calvin Harris. “We definitely laid some vocals down, I will say that,” she says of working with Smith, while also teasing that she has a record with Harris dropping “in the next few days.” She also spoke about what fans can expect from her new album and confessed, “I feel like it’s the first time that people are getting a sense of who I am.”
