Normani Teases Sam Smith & Calvin Harris Collaborations at the 2018 AMAs: Watch

Normani stopped to chat with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet at the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday (Oct. 9), discussing the success of “Love Lies,” upcoming musical projects with Sam Smith and Calvin Harris and more.

Asked about the success of her Khalid collaboration ”Love Lies,” Normani tells Billboard that it’s “crazy” that people connected so much to a song that she released with one of her “best friends.”

“It’s really beautiful to see the gradual growth that it did have,” she adds, noting that Khalid continues to inspire her every day.

The singer also chats about new music, revealing that she has something in the works with Sam Smith, as well as Calvin Harris. “We definitely laid some vocals down, I will say that,” she says of working with Smith, while also teasing that she has a record with Harris dropping “in the next few days.”

Speaking of releasing her album, Normani shares, “I feel like it’s the first time that people are getting a sense of who I am…I feel like there’s so much that I didn’t even know was necessarily even there, things that I want to talk about, and things that I’m able to do and I’m able to wear so many different hats.”

“Now I’ve been able to co-produce,” she adds, “Which is something that I didn’t know that I could even do before, co-write, so it’s just really me from the ground up and it’s the real me for the first time.”
