Taylor Swift performs on stage at the 42nd Annual American Music Awards at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Nov. 23, 2014 in Los Angeles.

Swift played with fire, but the performance did anything but go down in flames.

In honor of the 2017 American Music Awards, Billboard is counting down the best performances from the awards show’s history. Here is no. 9.

Taylor Swift chose to focus on the crazier, more theatrical half of her "Blank Space" video performance when she took it to the AMA stage in 2014. A massive, ornate picture frame placed Swift and an unnamed date front and center at a long dining table. Once her lover choked on a poisoned apple, Swift strutted away to quite literally play with fire in front of an army of framed men.

After that, it was off to another frame, within which Swift danced and fought with the most dapper lover. Off came her massive evening gown skirt, and suddenly Swift was rocking a sparkly mini dress while dancing among the flames engulfing her set.

The men in picture frames then came back out to play, dancing behind Swift as she commanded the stage with her crazy-ex acting skills. At the end of the number, Swift welcomed a new suitor armed with roses through a random door, writing his name in her latest blank space.
