Ricky Martin Says He 'Came Out' For His Kids

Latin singer Ricky Martin bravely revealed his homosexuality earlier this year, but he just recently spilled all the details surrounding his public coming-out to Oprah, for an episode that aired yesterday (Nov. 2).

As Mr. "Shake Your Bon-Bon" himself told the "Oprah Winfrey Show" crowd, "people love to see me with women." Certainly, and with sexy videos like "Livin' La Vida Loca," he seemed like quite the ladies man back in the late 1990s.

So why tell the world you're gay when, to be frank, few had thought about it in nearly ten years?

As Ricky told Oprah, his public declaration was all because of his young twins, Valentino and Matteo, whom he fathered two years ago using a surrogate mother.

"Before I decided to become a father, I already accepted who I was," Martin said. "I was happy with who I was. When I held my children, I said, 'OK, it's time to tell the world.'"

Cue the collective "awwww."

Martin added: "My kids gave me all the strength to come out. They gave me that final push. If I didn't come out for them, what was I going to be teaching them -- how to lie? I don't want my family to be based on lies."

Proud papa Ricky also took to Oprah's stage to premiere new music alongside Joss Stone, specifically their new song together, titled "The Best Thing About Me Is You." The single hit iTunes this week and will be featured on Martin's bilingual album, which is expected for release early next year.
