Uncharted Territory: Supersubmarina Returns, Maddi Jane "Rolls in the Deep"
Back in the top 10 on Uncharted, the Chucky-masked DJ BL3ND (No. 1) and YouTube cover star Tyler Ward hold their respective places (No. 5). In the meantime, Traphik (No. 3 up to No. 2), Laura Roppe (No. 4 down to No. 6), Your Favorite Enemies (No. 9 up to No. 7), Otenki (No. 6 down to No. 8), and Diyar Pala (No. 7 down to No. 9) mix up throughout the ranks.
Canadian dubsteper Excision re-enters Uncharted, reclaiming a top-10 spot. Last week, his latest mix "The X Sessions Vol. 1" debuted, gaining nearly 48,000 SoundCloud plays. In tandem, he ran a highly successful Facebook campaign wherein those who "Liked" his Page received a free download. This netted him 22,000 fans, with a new total of 205,000. Excision is playing multiple dates in Canada and the U.S. throughout the summer.
Dutch electronic music trio Noisia also gained a top 10 spot (No. 6); they released (May 23) a remix of "Raise Your Weapon" by Deadmau5. Shortly thereafter, the piano-driven, yet melodic track added 78,000 SoundCloud plays to their week-to-week total of 103,000. Additionally, the trio added 15,000 Facebook fans, giving them extra momentum.
Uncharted ranks artists - those who have not charted previously with Billboard - using a formula blending weekly additions of friends / fans / followers across the world's leading social networking sites (MySpace, Twitter, Facebook), as well as weekly artist page views and weekly song plays on influential music outlets (YouTube, Last.FM, SoundCloud).
Andalusian rock quartet Supersubmarina re-enters the chart this week at No. 19, with over 34,000 Myspace Music song plays and 600 new Twitter followers. It's no wonder: the band just lined up a handful of dates at summer festivals throughout Spain-the most notable bill that I'm seeing is at the Low Cost Festival on July 21 with artists like Crystal Castles, Cut Copy, and OK Go.
Leaping 32-25, DJ Dash Berlin rises thanks to the success of his remix of "Not Giving Up On Love," a collaboration with Sophie Ellis-Bextor; it garnered 318,000 YouTube views.
Finally, YouTube wunderkind Maddi Jane makes a modest, moving from No. 8 to No. 4. Her impressive cover of "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele has gained 2.3 million YouTube views. For the video, her crew trekked to the Centennial Sports Plex in Nashville, TN, and played live on the ice.
