Jay Z Owes Mariah Carey for His Job as Def Jam's President

Turns out Jay Z has Mariah Carey to thank for his job as president of Def Jam from 2004-2008. 

L.A. Reid told Rap Radar's podcast recently that it was the diva who first suggested Hova for the job, after Reid realized that he "needed help" with the label and asked her what he should do.

Carey said there was "only one person" for the job, Reid recounted, saying, "hire Jigga!"

But it's possible the whole thing was a bit more orchestrated than it first seemed, as Jay Z showed up in Reid's office immediately after that Carey's recommendation.

"I was like wait, they choreographed this," said Reid. "That was too good. He was so on time and it worked out."
