There’s still a long, hot summer to get through before fiending fans will learn what’s next for Cookie and the rest of the Empire crew this fall. But here’s one tidbit: It looks like Motown legend Smokey Robinson will be among the special guests slated for the second season of the Fox smash.

During a press junket promoting the next leg of Motown the Musical’s first national tour, Robinson told Billboard, “I’m a total Empire fan.” When asked if a cameo on the show was in the offing, he added, “Well, I’ll probably be on this next season,” without revealing any additional info.

Fox has not yet responded to Billboard's request to confirm the cameo.

Motown the Musical’s six-week Los Angeles run formally opened last night (April 30) at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, where it will stay through June 7. During the limited engagement, original Broadway cast member Julius Thomas III is reprising his lead role as Berry Gordy.
