Bobby Shmurda Pleads Not Guilty to All Charges
Police arrested Shmurda (real name: Ackquille Pollard) and Rebel (real name: Chad Marshall) Dec. 17 on conspiracy, reckless endangerment and gun possession after he left a recording studio in midtown Manhattan. They found two handguns and a small amount of crack cocaine in a car in which he was riding, according to authorities.
The indictment then charged Pollard, Marshall and the 13 other defendants with a variety of crimes, including murder, attempted murder, assault, attempted assault, weapons possession, criminal use of a firearm, reckless endangerment, narcotics sales and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Police seized 21 guns during the investigation, 10 of them while making arrests.
During the three and a half hour hearing at Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday -- the first since being arrested -- Pollard and Marshall's $2 million bails were argued as "excessive" and "extremely unfair," according to XXL. Pollard's new attorney, Kenneth Montgomery -- who took over from Howard Greenberg after the initial indictment -- questioned the prosecution's claim that Shmurda was a leader of the alleged operation, saying, "There's nothing about a hierarchy about this alleged gang" in the indictment.
Still, the judge refused to reduce bail for all defendants until he delivers his decisions April 22.
Pollard is personally facing charges of conspiracy, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Marshall faces charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. A full list of the charges is available here.
The evidence against Pollard includes several recorded phone conversations, according to the initial indictment, including some between him and gang members serving time on Rikers Island.
