'Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B' premieres Nov. 15.

The casting of Aaliyah in Lifetime's upcoming biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, has been controversial from the beginning. First, Zendaya Coleman backed out of the project amid family drama over song rights. Then her replacement, Alexandra Shipp, came under fire for not looking enough like the late R&B singer.

Well, a new teaser for the project hopes to put those concerns to rest. The 15-second video, posted to Lifetime's Facebook page, shows Shipp in Aaliyah's trademark crop top and baggy pants, and the 23-year-old Nickelodeon star is mighty convincing. Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B debuts Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. See the video for yourself below:
