Tamar Braxton Talks New Album, Motherhood & 'Braxton Family Values' Show (Exclusive)
A busy reality TV show schedule -- with, count 'em, three programs -- isn't keeping Tamar Braxton out of the studio.
The youngest member of the singing Braxton family tells Billboard she's "more than thinking about" her follow-up to 2012's "Love and War," which debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in September and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and received three Grammy Award nominations. "We've actually started recording some (songs) already, and I'm really excited about it," Braxton reports. "I've written about maybe 10 or 12 song, and I really, really love four of them. I have a set-up on my (tour) bus, and if I come up with ideas I just write them right there. We're right in the beginning stages of it, but I'm really enjoying the material we're starting to do."
Like "Love and War," Braxton says the new songs will reflect her state of mind at the time of writing. "Right now I'm in a place where I'm really happy, and sometimes I'm overwhelmed, but at the end of the day I'm just trying to balance it all and understand myself as a woman," she explains. "So those are the songs I'm writing right now, but I can't say whether that's going to be the end result."
She hasn't yet chosen producers to work with, though Braxton says Pharrell Williams is on top of the wish list, and she hopes to get started in earnest in July, after her July 6 performance at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans completes her tour in support of "Love and War."
At the same time Braxton jumps back onto the talk show "The Real," which she describes as "like girlfriend happy hour. It's so fun. The girls and I, we really have a great relationship. We don't agree on everything, but we agree to disagree. Sometimes it gets a little dramatic because everybody believes in what they believe in and what they think, and everybody wants to get their own opinions across. But just expect to have a good time and talk about things that you know people want to hear about -- entertainment, relationships, fashion and things like that."
Braxton is also in the midst of the fourth season of "Braxton Family Values," which she promises will continue "the constant battle of being sisters and trying to find our ways in our lives. Everyone is another now and it's totally different for us. We're jsut trying to mend the broken fences that happened last season between the sisters." On the third season of "Tamar & Vince," meanwhile, viewers will "get to see my life on the road and how I balance all the things I'm involved in, and have some good-times in between," with plenty of presence for the couple`s year-old son Logan Vincent Herbert.
"Motherhood is the best thing that every happened to me," Braxton says. "It kind of puts everything into perspective. There's time to work, there's time to be a wife and there's time to be a mother, and that's what comes first to me. If Logan is sick or if he needs anything, I stop everything and tend to him and make sure he's taken care of before anything else gets handled."
