TLC Preps More New Music 'With Guests,' Talks Lil Mama 'Repping' For Left Eye
TLC has been "in the studio daily" prepping new music for an October 15 release, T-Boz and Chilli said Sunday from the red carpet at the Video Music Awards. The singers already announced two songs, the Ne Yo-penned "Meant To Be" and Lady Gaga and Dallas Austin’s "Posh Life," for a forthcoming hits-and-new music compilation on Epic Records. But there’s some other "stuff brewing," T-Boz teased, with some possible guests – perhaps even Lil Mama, who joined the girls onstage for "No Scrubs" in tribute to the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes at the Mixtape Festival in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
"We might as well spice it up, have fun," T-Boz said. "A lot of people are paying homage to Lisa, so why not?"
Chilli was also encouraged by fans’ reception to Lil Mama’s guest performance in July. "Honestly, it was so great. I think people — they didn't know what to expect and the fact that she came out there and just tore it up and repped for Left Eye like that, you couldn’t help but love it."
"Once people knew that she was paying homage and repping for her," T-Boz added, "and we cleared up, we’re not replacing her for the 90th millionth trillionth time. I don't know what they be hearing – we said it!"
TLC was also the only female act on a star-studded roster at Drake’s OVO Fest in Toronto earlier this month, where they shared the stage with Kanye West, Lil Wayne, "Crooked Smile" duet partner J. Cole and even a reunited Diddy and Mase. "When Puff started 'All About The Benjamins I was like, ‘Hayyy!'" T-Boz said. "I had such a ball. We were having fun."
