Kendrick Lamar Nominated For 14 BET Hip-Hop Awards, Multiple Nods for Drake, J. Cole
Kendrick Lamar made a splash with his major label debut. He recently called out some of rap's best by name, warning them about his aim for hip-hop's top spot on Big Sean's "Control."
Now, BET is taking notice.
In a statement, the network said Thursday that Lamar received the most nominations with 14 for the eighth annual BET Hip-Hop Awards. He is the show's reigning Lyricist of the Year and his 2012 album, "good kid, m.A.A.d city" recently moved past 1 million sales.
Rapper Drake scored 13 nominations and J. Cole earned 10 nods.
For the first time, rap veteran Snoop Dogg will host the show, which will be taped Sept. 28 at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center and will air Oct. 15. The Awards will also beam Oct. 18 across BET's international network in the U.K. and Africa.
"I'm excited to be hosting this year's 'BET Hip Hop Awards 2013,' " said Snoop in the statement. "We're going to have fun this year and I will make it a show to remember, ya dig?! I'll be giving a ton of surprises, showcasing my exclusive GGN News clips and bringing all my nieces and nephews to the stage for an exciting night of hip-hop."
