50 Cent Cancels U.K. Appearance Following Domestic Abuse Charge
50 Cent has canceled a planned appearance at a retail store in Birmingham, England, to promote his line of SMS Audio headphones after being charged with attacking his ex-girlfriend.
The rapper was on Monday supposed to appear at a branch of Argos, which with about 740 stores is the largest general-goods retailer in the U.K., but has canceled, the Birmingham Mail newspaper reported. It said his team cited "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for the cancelation.
50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, is set for a July 22 court appearance in L.A. for is arraignment on charges of domestic violence and vandalism. He could face up to five years in prison plus $46,000 in fines.
The musician and actor is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend and trashing her home in Toluca Lake.
The woman told police that during a June 23 argument, Jackson began destroying property at her condo before she locked herself into a bedroom. She says Jackson kicked open the bedroom door and kicked her. Police estimated about $7,100 in damage.
The woman said she had been in a three-year relationship and has a baby with Jackson.
The rapper has denied the charges. "We have been in contact with the L.A. City Attorney’s Office and are currently conducting our own investigation into these allegations," his lawyers said in a statement, according to NME.
