M.I.A. Releases First 'Matangi' Single, 'Bring The Noize': Listen
The rapper talks label frustration.
M.I.A. returns with the first single off her album, "Matangi" (N.E.E.T./Interscope), titled "Bring The Noize."
Besides debuting the Switch and Surkin-produced cut, off her upcoming fourth studio album due in the fall, M.I.A. talked to BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe about the label frustrations she's currently facing. "It's not easy, it's not easy. It's not easy. I keep finishing the record and handing it in, finishing the record and handing it in," she told Lowe via Pitchfork.
"It's just one of those things where I've given up at this point. I was literally going to start... putting out records from my bedroom," she said. "This was my last stab at it – I'm going to hand it in and wait for it to go out the way albums go out. If I didn't get it out right now, I would've definitely exploded."
Before giving fans a taste of her long-delayed album, M.I.A. released her "Matangi Mixtape" in February.
In support of "Matangi," M.I.A. is performing at a few venues from July to September. She'll stop through the U.S., including the Pitchfork Music Festival, Canada, Japan and UK.
