Gloria Estefan Had Bloody Good Time Making 'Hotel Nacional' Video
Latin Icon Talks Style, New Video & Being a 'Gleek' at Heart Truth Red Dress Show
Gloria Estefan drew blood while making her new, stylish video for "Hotel Nacional." And she liked it. The latin music icon told Billboard.com on Wednesday (Feb. 8) that the clip, which debuts this week, has the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen's imprint all over it.
"For the video, I wore an Alexander McQueen ring," she said before walking the runway at the Heart Truth Red Dress show in NYC. "It made me bleed and I had to suck my own blood… so it was very helpful for the video! It's a big skull, and I love it, but when I was dancing and moving my hands around I really did a number on the rest of my hand."
Estefan, looking stunning in a red dress and sporting a tall updo, calls "Hotel Nacional" her most stylish video to date.
"It's an Alexander McQueen leather ensemble that is killer with a major beehive," she said. "It's definitely going to go down as one of the strongest looks."
"Hotel Nacional" reached No. 1 on the the Dance Music chart and currently sits at No. 9 in its ninth week. The video's rollout, a premiere on E! Online and heavy promotion, could bump it back up the ladder.
MORE FASHION WEEK
Aside from all-too-familiar music success, Estefan is also gearing up to make a high profile turn on FOX's "Glee." She films her scenes at the end of the month but played coy about knowing what songs she'll be singing.
"I'm such a gleek, so I'm looking forward to that big time," she told us. "It's going to be fun. And to play Naya Rivera's mom, Mrs. Lopez, Santana's mom -- not Carlos Santana's mom, they keep confusing that! -- It's going to be a blast. The musical number I'm super psyched, I don't know what it's going to be yet, but I'm excited."
The Heart Truth Red Dress show walked the runway last night at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Instead of models, red-clad celebrities were the focus to help raise about heart disease for women. Estefan was joined by Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, Broadway superstar Idina Menzel, and diva icon Chaka Kahn, who rocked a red leopard-print creation by Chris March.
Actual model Christie Brinkley was also there and strutted out to Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" -- she starred in the video -- and unfortunately tripped at the the beginning of the walk.
