Janelle Monae’s Erykah Badu-assisted “Q.U.E.E.N.” Video: Style Breakdown
Monae gets funky in her new video. She's wrapped in her classy looks, but with fresh twists.
Janelle Monáe is back with a chic new video spotlighting her sleek style. In the video the singer rocks out to her new single, "Q.U.E.E.N." from Janelle's upcoming "Electric Lady" album rocking her signature black and white gender-bending suit look. We broke down all of the retro and androgynous fashions below plus a sexy look from Erykah Badu who makes an appearance in the new track.
Janelle Monae is first seen as a frozen exhibit in a museum that comes to life when the music starts to play. Right off the bat, we see that Monáe got a bit funkier with her style for this video by adding extra edge to her signature black and white look.
Janelle stuns in a black blazer with exaggerated fringe detail on the shoulders, stark white pants, bold square earrings and our favorite item, a red skull sash that perfectly accents the singer’s red lipstick.
Channeling the retro swagger of Elvis’s “Jailhouse Rock” video, Monae jams while surrounded by six dancing ladies rocking bold black-striped looks. Janelle contrasts the backup dancers in a solid look while getting her groove on in a puffy sleeved white shirt and black second skin pants paired with fierce metallic Givenchy heels.
Erykah Badu joins in the fun monochromatic fashion dance party, as she sports a white dress with a rope belt, gold armbands and massive blinged out shoulder pads that would leave any linebacker envious. Badu alternates between the shimmering shoulder pads paired with a bob hairstyle and a massive honey-tinged wig.
For Monáe’s last look the singer goes androgynous in a black tux, complete with a ruffled white shirt, black tie and her classic pompadour hairstyle.
