Since 2013's Same Trailer, Different Park, it seems like the whole industry has been pulling for Kacey Musgraves to have a bona fide hit. It hasn't happened yet, but "Biscuits" -- the first single off her forthcoming sophomore major label album -- sure sounds like the ticket.
A studio version of "Biscuits" emerged online March 3. The unauthorized stream was soon deactivated, but not before raising a great deal of anticipation for Musgraves' upcoming release. She has been performing the song live for over year. Check out this performance from her set at 2014's Key West Songwriter's Festival:
Co-written with past collaborator/2014 best new artist Grammy nominee Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, "Biscuits" bops along like "Follow Your Arrow," the song she performed at the 2014 Grammys. That song is her closest thing to a hit so far (it peaked at No. 10 on Hot Country Songs and No. 60 on the Hot 100), so it's certainly got the right pedigree. Similar as it is, its hooks and harmonies are fleshed out just so, that it sounds even more irresistible.
Are we gonna hear Kacey's Southern cooking metaphors on pop radio this year? Let's hope so.
