As the annual Country Radio Seminar industry conference that kicked off in Nashville Wednesday night, there was one much hyped band performing with a name few recognized.
That was a 1990s cover band led by Dierks Bentley, going by the name Hot Country Knights, for a fictional wig-wearing talent show, including guests Miranda Lambert, Kip Moore, Randy Houser and Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley.
As Ram Country reports, Bentley has teased this cover band concept for some time, even setting up Facebook and Twitter accounts for Hot Country Knights and some of its imaginary members -- Douglas Douglason, Shelton Van Ricky and his sister Shelby Shelton.
The made up backstory is that they were Nashville's greatest cover band before breaking up on the eve of the year 2000. As such, Bentley and the group's other lead singer (played by his actual bass player, Cassady Feasby) stayed in character throughout the set, giving each other the middle finger and creating the sense of conflict.
