After more than a decade in the business, Jason Isbell might be good enough for primetime NBC. This year's Americana Music Awards Album of the Year winner was recently asked to audition for The Voice by one of the show's talent producers, an email of which Isbell posted to Twitter on Wednesday.

"I came across Jason Isbell online and was hoping to chat with him about auditioning for us if it's something that interests him?" wrote the apparently unfamiliar producer.

The former Drive-By Truckers member and solo musician had some fun with it, playfully going back and forth with Frank Turner on the subject.

Finally, Isbell settled on a decision that he'd go for it. Joking, of course. His song of choice, something iconic in the indie-rock realm but not well suited for The Voice most likely.

Isbell's fourth solo studio album, Southeastern, came out last year to wide acclaim.
