In honor of country music's longevity and vaunted place in American cultural history, Billboard celebrates the 70th anniversary of the chart that's now known as Hot Country Songs by taking a look at the biggest No. 1 songs of each decade of the chart's history and the acts with the most No. 1 songs of all time.

It's also a milestone 50 years since the launch of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. So we're also looking back at the biggest No. 1 albums of each decade of since that chart began in 1964.

Decades are complete for the '50s (1950-59), '60s (1960-69), '70s (1970-79), '80s (1980-89), '90s (1990-99) and '00s (2000-09), while the '40s encompass the chart's January 8, 1944, launch, in its earliest form, through the end of 1949, and the '10s encompass the charts dated January 2, 2010, through January 18, 2014. Ties were broken first by titles' most weeks in the weekly chart's top 10, then by most weeks in the top 40.
