Jamey Johnson Releasing Hank Cochran Tribute Album

Award-winning singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson is set to release "Livin' For a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran," on Oct. 16.

The Buddy Cannon-produced homage to the late country great Hank Cochran, which will be available first on vinyl starting Sept. 25, features collaborations with stars such as Willie Nelson, George Strait, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, and Lee Ann Womack, among many more.

"If I had to dream up somebody like Hank to influence songwriters, I couldn't have done better job," said Johnson in a press release of Cochran, who died in 2010 at the age of 74. "That's what he was - not just for me, but for Willie and for a lot of people - just a helpful friend. If he knew you needed help with something, he could help you. He was there. And that's what I want to be for the people in my life, same as Hank. He influenced me, not only as an artist and a songwriter, but also as a person."

Cochran is remembered by Willie Nelson as "one of the best writers up there," according to the press release. "Well, really, when you start talking about songwriters, you've got to say his name first," said Nelson. "Then you start talking about everybody else."

Cochran's widow, Suzi Cochran, said Hank and Jamey met shortly after Cochran was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. "The last time Jamey saw Hank was the night before Hank died," she said in a press release. "Hank adored Jamey, Hank loved Jamey. Jamey was a constant in the last chapter of Hank's life."

Jamey's labor of love is the follow-up his 2010 critically-acclaimed effort "The Guitar Song," which received country album of the year nods from both the Grammys and the Academy of Country Music.
