David Bowie performs onstage during his "Ziggy Stardust" era in 1973 in Los Angeles.

As part of a celebration of what would have been his 74th birthday, two previously-unreleased David Bowie covers of songs by John Lennon and Bob Dylan have arrived on streaming services.

The tracks include Bowie's emotional take on Lennon's heart-breaking 1970 chronicle of his abandonment by his parents, "Mother," which finds him mournfully singing the song over a track that includes gospel-tinged organ and a wailing guitar crescendo in which Bowie wails, "Mama don't go, daddy come home!"

According to NME, the song was originally recorded by Bowie in 1998 by his longtime producer Tony Visconti for a Lennon tribute album, but was never officially released. The moving cover of Dylan's 1997 Time Out of Mind song "Tryin' to Get to Heaven" was also recorded in 1998 during sessions for a live album, LiveAndWell.Com.

Rhino Records is issuing the songs as a limited-edition 7" single with 8,147 numbered copies, with 1,000 on cream-colored vinyl.

As part of Friday's (Jan. 8) birthday celebration, Bowie's music is also now available on TikTok, where fans can access such beloved hits as "Modern Love," "Starman," "Rebel Rebel," "Under Pressure" and more.

An all-star streaming tribute to Bowie, "A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day!", will also take place on Friday night. The event is slated to feature appearances from: Trent Reznor, Andra Day, Billy Corgan, Adam Lambert, Perry Farrell, Joe Elliott, Gavin Rossdale, actor Gary Oldman, Macy Gray, Ian Astbury, Yungblud, Peter Frampton, Kind Heaven Orchestra vocalist Etty Lau Farrell, Ian Hunter, Anna Calvi, Atticus Ross, Mariqueen Maandig Reznor, Charlie Sexton, Catherine Russell, Lizzy Hale, Gail Ann Dorsey, Michael C.
