Sting Mourns Juice WRLD's Sudden Passing: 'Such a Tragic Loss to the World of Music'

Sting opened up exclusively to Billboard on Monday (Dec. 9) about the sudden passing of Juice WRLD over the weekend at the age of 21.

"This is such a tragic loss for the world of music, a young life with so much potential and a unique and precious talent," the rock icon tells Billboard. "'Lucid Dreams' was my favorite of all the many interpolations of 'Shape of My Heart,' it will resonate for many years to come. My sincere condolences to the family."

Sting was also quick to shoot down rumors that he was suing the late rapper (born Jarad Anthony Higgins) over sampling his 1993 hit in the latter's 2018 breakout hit -- which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- with his spokesperson calling the gossip "simply untrue."

On Sunday, the rapper unexpectedly passed away after suffering a seizure while in the terminal at Chicago's Midway Airport. The Billboard cover star, who had just celebrated his 21st birthday on Dec. 2, was later pronounced dead after being taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Benny Blanco and Lil Nas X have also paid tribute to the rapper, with the latter covering Juice's "Lucid Dreams" at the Jingle Ball in San Francisco on Sunday night.
