The 1975's Matty Healy Kisses Male Fan at Dubai Show: 'I Don't Think We'll Be Allowed Back'

The same-sex kiss defied the Arab nation's strict anti-LGBTQ laws.

The 1975's Matty Healy is pretty sure his band won't have a command performance in Dubai anytime soon. During the band's first-ever gig in United Arab Emirates, Healy went down into the crowd at Coca-Cola Arena on Wednesday night (Aug. 14) to greet a male fan who reportedly shouted "Marry Me." Healy then gave the man a hug and seemed to ask if he would also like a kiss, right before laying one on his lips.

The kiss broke the strict anti-LGBTQ laws in the nation where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by up to 10 years in prison. In fan-posted footage of the kiss that took place during "Loving Someone," Healy is seen kissing the man and then reminding the crowd, "we're all human, right?"

After the show, Healy tweeted, "Thank you Dubai you were so amazing. I don’t think we’ll be allowed back due to my ‘behaviour’ but know that I love you and I wouldn’t have done anything differently given the chance again." He later added, "But who knows maybe they will let me back in let's just wait and see :)."

The 1975 have long been outspoken LGBTQ advocates, donating funds in 2018 to help open London's first LGBTQ+ community center
