Tool Return With 'Fear Inoculum,' First Song in 13 Years: Listen

Tim Cadiente

All the pieces are finally slipping into place for Tool's upcoming fifth album. After months and months of slow reveal, the band finally peeled back one of the last layers on Monday (Aug. 5) when they posted the cover of Fear Inoculum, due out on Aug. 30, and they dropped the title track a few days later, on Wednesday (Aug. 7).

"Fear Inoculum" clocks in at a whopping 10 minutes and 22 seconds. "Immunity/ Long overdue/ Contagion/ I exhale you/ Lying/ I opened up to you/ Venom in mania," Maynard James Keenan recites on the first verse.

The title track and album pre-order are also now available. The album artwork's stark image features the new gold metallic Tool logo floating over a background that appears to be a coiled snake, with the title in the same steampunk-style font at the bottom.

Fear Inoculum is the follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days. Last week, Tool made all their previous albums and 1992's Opiate EP available on streaming and digital services for the first time.
