Sufjan Stevens Releases Two New Tracks to Celebrate Pride Month: Listen

Andrea Morrison
Sufjan Stevens

To celebrate Pride Month, Sufjan Stevens released two new tracks on Wednesday (May 29) via Asthmatic Kitty Records. Both songs, “Love Yourself” and “With My Whole Heart,” fittingly touch on that important four-letter word.

“Love Yourself” is based on a sketch Stevens wrote 20 years ago, while “With My Whole Heart” is the result of Stevens’ personal challenge to “write an upbeat and sincere love song without conflict, anxiety or self-deprecation.”

Both tracks will be available on limited-edition 7” vinyl on June 28. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Ali Forney Center in Harlem, N.Y. and Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit, M.I., two organizations that support LGBTQ and homeless children in America. Stevens also designed a Pride t-shirt that goes along with the single artwork. It is available for purchase exclusively on his new merch site, Sufjamz.

Hear “With My Whole Heart" and “Love Yourself” below, along with the original four-track demo of the latter that he recorded in 1996, and a short instrumental reprise.
