The cover includes background vocals from Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Lydia Night of The Regrettes.

Morrissey released his cover of The 5th Dimension’s hit “Wedding Bell Blues” on Monday (April 8). He also dropped a lyric video via social media one day later.

“Oh Bill, I love you so/ I always will/ I look at you and see the passion eyes of May/ Oh but am I ever gonna see my wedding day?” the British rock icon sings over jangly piano and whistling harmonies, giving the lyrics originally delivered by Marilyn McCoo a subtly queer bent, as an official press release points out.

The sunny track, which includes backing vocals by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Lydia Night of The Regrettes, serves as the lead single for California Son, Morrissey’s upcoming album of covers from the 1960s and 1970s.

California Son is set to drop May 24 via Etienne Records/BMG.
