Jared & The Mill have taken on Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over," premiering their rendition of the melancholic song exclusively on Billboard today (April 2).

The indie folk band’s frontman, Jared Kolesar, appears solo playing the acoustic guitar and singing Eilish’s lyrics in an accompanying black and white music video, giving the already-somber track an added emotional layer. “Quiet when I'm coming home and I'm on my own/ I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that/ I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that,” Kolesar sings.

Feeling a helplessness to your own self destructive ways is a really difficult challenge to move past, and pulling people into your life when you see yourself as harmful is really scary,” the singer-songwriter tells Billboard. “As somebody who spends most of my time away from home, I’ve dealt with a lot of this anxiety, and I think that’s why the song resonates so heavily with me. Plus Billie’s voice is insane and just draws you in from the top of the song.”

“The minimalism of it is definitely something we wanted to hold onto, and it was a lot of fun figuring out what spaces to set each instrument in,” Kolesar adds. “Larry’s work on the Baritone and Mike on the banjo really give the song life, and Chuck choosing the moments he did for his synth work really throw the song into an imaginative and beautiful place.”

Jared & The Mill will kick off their North American tour in support of their latest LP, This Story Is No Longer Available, on April 3. They are set to make stops in Columbus, OH, Nashville, Los Angeles and more.
