Modest Mouse Mails Cryptic Puzzle Pieces to Fans Teasing 'Poison The Well' Single

Some Modest Mouse fans recieved a special delivery in the mail recently: cryptic puzzle pieces from the band that sparked hope that the group may be preparing to release new music.

One fan asked the band directly via Twitter if this meant a, "New album?" But the Isaac Brock-led group replied "New single," instead. The puzzle came in a drawstring bag with directions that read "Assemble my insides to reveal the advertisement," with another message that said, "'Poison The Well' will arrive 3.29."

The puzzle, once assembled, formed a psychadelic illustration of a collage of mushrooms, with a promise of a March 29 release date for the single. Earlier this week, Modest Mouse celebrated the four-year anniversary of the release of their sixth album, 2015's Strangers to Ourselves.

The band used a similar strategy to spread the word for that album's release, when a select number of fans recieved a limited-edition item in the mail accompanied by a note that read: “We want you to have this limited test pressing of our new single ‘Lampshades On Fire.’ The song will be available for purchase tomorrow, Tuesday, December 16.”

In the meantime, MM will be joining The Black Keys as a special guest on the blues rocking duo's Let's Rock tour, which kicks off on Sept. 23 at the Pepsi Center in Denver
