Scott Stapp On Dolly Parton: 'She's Been Such a Positive Voice For Optimism'

Scott Stapp and his wife Jaclyn caught up with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet at the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala on Friday (Feb. 8), where they spoke on how they have been influenced by Dolly Parton and what their favorite songs of hers are.

Parton, the evening's honoree, has been "such an inspiration" for Stapp. "She's a legend," he said. "She's a songwriter, she's an actor, she's been such a positive voice for optimism, for positivity, a force for feminism, before anyone else was."

He adds that she “sidestepped her beauty” and showcased her diverse talent, proving herself as an actor songwriter, singer and performer.

Asked to name his favorite songs of Parton's, Stapp chooses “Why'd You Come in Here Lookin' Like That,” “Nine to Five,” and “Dumb Blonde.”
