Electro-Rockers Lowborn Premiere Video For Fiery 'Be Like Me': Exclusive

Whitney Newell

North Carolina quartet Lowborn debuts the video for "Be Like Me" exclusively via Billboard today (Oct. 25).

Lowborn (Wes Lauterbach, Zane Frye, William Clayton and Cody Bishoff) hasn't been around for long, and its home isn't exactly an industry hotbed, but there's reason to keep an eye on these up-and-comers. Their sound itself is absolutely huge, and it also, in fact, touches on a wide swath of musical territory: the radio- and arena-ready beat-driven rock of Imagine Dragons and Bastille, the punk and goth textures of PVRIS. If you're into Bring Me the Horizon's recent synth- and sample-friendly moves, you'll likely be on board.

All of that comes into play on Lowborn's latest track. "Be Like Me" is a big one: dramatic drum rolls, eerie atmospherics, an urgent, battering ram of a chorus. Vocalist Lauterbach described its message in a recent chat with Billboard. "[It's] about the last couple of years I’ve spent working in the music industry and all the dark corners I’ve explored while learning its ins and outs," he says. "The masks in the new video represent managers, labels, booking agents, really anyone who sees you as a dollar sign instead of a person... [It's] an anthem for anyone who felt like they couldn’t chase their dreams; we’re here to tell them to do it anyway."

For Lowborn, "Be Like Me" follows a string of self-released singles and one EP (this year's Collection One), beginning in 2017.
