Cat Power was truly captivating during a performance of “Woman” on The Late Show on Wednesday night (Oct. 3). The 46-year-old folk-rock singer’s (aka Chan Marshall), first album in six years, Wanderer, is due out on Friday (Oct 5) and the Late Show set was proof of how much we've been missing in the past half-decade.

Marshall, dressed all in black, began by wrapping a hand around one of her two microphones to sing the plaintive lines, “If I had a dime for every time/ Tell me I'm not what you need” with a keyboard dragging behind her.

“I’m a woman of my word, now haven't you heard/ My word's the only thing I've ever needed,” she sang in a warm, sultry voice on the chorus.

The momentum built in the last minute of the song as Marshall repeated “woman” over and over again with her backup singers harmonizing much like Lana Del Rey does on the studio version.
