Mumford & Sons Return With New Song 'Guiding Light' From Upcoming Album 'Delta'
On Thursday (Sept. 20), Mumford & Sons paid a visit to BBC Radio 1 to share their new single "Guiding Light," which will appear on their fourth studio album, Delta, set to release on Nov. 16.
"It was hard work, we tried it loads of different ways," frontman Marcus Mumford told BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac about the new song. "We wrote it like a year ago, and it's taken a while just to get it to that point, and now we're happy with it."
Mumford & Sons' experimental nature is seen in the smooth piano chords and harmonious vocals that give the song its upbeat tempo. Adding an acoustic guitar to the mix effortlessly complements the different rhythms that frame "Guiding Light's" story of enduring romance. The music video further reinforces the song's message with images of love and unity.
The folk alternative band also revealed to BBC Radio 1 that Delta will be even more of an experiment, unlike previous albums.
"The first records, we had restrictions on ourselves just from what the instruments we had on tour were, and when we were writing it was on tour, so we didn't have much time to delve into the studio," Mumford said during the interview. "The third album we put some boundaries, but on this record it felt like there have been no boundaries creatively."
Mumford & Sons will perform the single on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday. After the album release, the band will embark on a 60-day worldwide tour, with full dates to be announced Oct. 4.
