Good Charlotte performs on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Sept. 13, 2018.

Good Charlotte were good sports when Late Late Show host James Corden played musical guru and tried to shoehorn Dr. Phil into the band on Thursday night's (Sept. 13) show. Alas, despite his best efforts, the addition of the mascara-wearing daytime talker did not, in fact, transform them into "Great" Charlotte.

The band were clearly good sports about the whole thing, but the bit worked mostly because Dr. Phil was truly committed. "I'm here to rock this bitch!," he said excitedly upon entering the rehearsal room. "Let's do it!"

While the TV therapist slapped on makeup and fake tattoos to better capture that signature Good Charlotte look, he was still Dr. Phil at heart, complete with his signature down-home colloquialisms. "This is just so exciting, I'm like a pig in the mud," he said during a confessional. "I cannot thank James enough."

After a less than stellar performance of "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous," Corden realized the error in his decision and confessed,"I'll be the first to admit, I got that very, very wrong," he said. "If anything, that was Bad Charlotte." At least Dr. Phil was happy with his performance. “Nailed it!” he exclaimed.

After losing Dr. Phil, Good Charlotte closed out the episode with a emotional debut performance of their single "Prayers" from their latest album, Generation Rx.

The band took to the blue lit stage joined by a back-up singers in skull masks and an American flag backdrop to sing the powerful track that serves as commentary on the "thoughts and prayers" culture. The message  came across loud and clear on verses such as, "None of this makes sense in this reality/ God just leaves the room when I turn on my TV/ I see a little girl who's crying 'cause she lost her family/ All these strangers sending thoughts and prayers/ She's buried underneath."
