The joint outing was slated to kick off on Saturday (Sept. 1).

Less than 48 hours before their joint tour was slated to kick off, Mastodon and Dinosuar Jr. announced that they have been forced to cancel the outing due to an unspecified issue in the Mastodon family. The dates were slated to start on Saturday (Sept. 1) in Edmonton, Alberta, but it was called off due to a "critical situation of a member of the Mastodon family," according to Consequence of Sound.

In a since-deleted message, Mastodon reportedly explained: "Mastodon regrets to inform fans that due to a critical situation of a member of the Mastodon family, their upcoming tour with Dinosaur Jr. will be canceled. Tickets and VIP upgrades will be refunded at point of purchase. Mastodon would like to extend their sincerest thanks to their loyal fans as well as the fans of Dinosaur Jr. for their support and understanding at this time. The band hopes to make up these shows at a future time, but as of now, no plans for rescheduling have been set."

Dinosaur Jr. did not explain the cancelation, but the band's FB page and Twitter confirmed that the shows were off. A spokesperson for Mastodon could not be reached for comment at press time.
